Once a humble fishing village, Marbella transformed into a glamorous haven for the elite thanks to the vision of José Banús. In 1966, he partnered with renowned architect Noldi Schreck to create a “pueblo andaluz con puerto deportivo” — an Andalusian village with a marina. This ambitious project, inaugurated in 1970, has since become a symbol of luxury and exclusivity.

Puerto Banús’ allure lies in its captivating blend of Andalusian charm and cosmopolitan flair. Stroll along palm-lined avenues adorned with gardens and admire the majestic yachts gracing the marina. It’s important to note that the Costa del Sol is served by two main highways, the A7 and the AP7 (this is a toll road and allows for faster movement between different points, especially during the summer when traffic is heavier). 

In Puerto Banús, exclusive apartments, penthouses, and attics coexist, some in Andalusian style, others with more contemporary designs, but all share the common feature of being just steps from the beach or right along its edge. Many are part of complexes surrounded by lush gardens, with pools and amenities. Most offer extraordinary views. It is true that, due to the lack of available plots, villas are not abundant, but such constructions can be found just a 5-minute drive north, in the Nueva Andalucía area.

Puerto Banús is a relatively small area with different zones. Apartment prices start around 175,000 € for a 50 m² apartment in the areas farthest from the sea and can reach up to 

6,000,000 € for an 800 m² apartment on the beachfront.

Life in Puerto Banús revolves mainly around the marina, with its supercars, mega yachts, and high-end shops. Walking towards the lighthouse is a must-do to get a perspective of the harbour with La Concha as a backdrop. It’s also very picturesque to visit the Centro Plaza shopping centre and the Saturday market in the Bullring area, where antique treasures, souvenirs, and even fruits, vegetables, and flowers from local producers can be found. For the little ones, Antonio Banderas Square has an amusement park that is open all year round.

Picasso. Since 1982, a classic of Italian cuisine at the foot of the marina. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait about 30 minutes.

Rosas Café. Adorned with 30,000 silk roses in various shades, it’s the place to enjoy a Tunki coffee with a nutritious and beautifully crafted dish made from local ingredients.

Breathe. This concept embodies the four elements—water, earth, air, and fire—in four different gastronomic proposals, all offering the same quality and unforgettable experiences.

Paisana. Enjoy wholesome and homemade meals made with local products in a beautifully decorated space featuring wood and carefully chosen textiles. The restaurant offers views of La Concha and the sea.

Less than 5 minutes north of Puerto Banús lies Nueva Andalucía, an area nicknamed Golf Valley because it boasts five world-class 18-hole championship courses: Los Naranjos Golf Club, Aloha Golf Club, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, La Quinta, and Magna Marbella Golf.  These are just the nearby courses, but the Costa del Sol, also known as the Costa del Golf, offers many more options to perfect your swing.

The Costa del Sol offers a wide range of educational options, with a strong and reputable system that includes some of the best private schools in Spain and internationally. Education in Spain is divided into three stages: early childhood (ages 3-6), primary (ages 6-12), and secondary (ages 12-16), with an optional final stage from 16-18 years. Primary and secondary education are mandatory.

Parents can choose from Spanish state schools, concertado schools (government-funded but privately managed), or international schools offering bilingual education with a strong emphasis on English. Many expats start with public schools and switch to private institutions for university preparation.
